Any visitors to this very special town wouid be struck by the peace and silence of its narrow streets and alleyways. To experience Lucignano is to revisit the past.

You reach the town by way of the gate of S. Giusto, from this point you can see the fortress and the "Cassero". In front of the tower overlooking a small square stands the "Loggiato" by Andrea Pozzo. A steep climb leads to the "Collegiata" (The town's principal church). On the summit rises the church of S. Franciscus and our hotel is situated on the lett of the Town Hall.

This is the ideal place for someone who is looking for a family atmosphere to stay in all be it for business or for pleasure. It offers our guests both peace and variety. A large garden allows our guests to pass the time in peace and quiet. The rooms are airy and light and look out across the Val di Chiana or on to the Square.

East of Lucignano is the early monastery of the Capucine Fathers. The intimate chapel attached to it is also worth a visit. Also worth visiting the Shrine of "La Querce", attributed to Sangallo and built in 1574. The church has three naves, columns of travertin stones support the church. In the middie of the countryside there is a Residential College "The Meadows" where you can improve your general cu/ture and English, it also offers learning holidays for children.

LA MAGGIOLATA Dl LUCIGNANO
During the last two weeks of may the "Maggiolata" is celebrated. It is a procession of allegorical tableaux on floats covered with fiowers' The procession is accompanied by songs and music, group of young people are in fancy dresses. The windows and the balconies are decorated with fiowers and colourtul tapisseries. Fanfare and trumpets invites people to enjoy this wondertul spring festival; from the Town Hall the heralds leave in a fanfare of trumpets and a roll of drums. Because of its position it is an ideal point of departure for innumerable excursions into the Val di Chiana, with the wondertul drive to the Castle of Gargonza, you can also visit Castiglion Fiorentino of roman origin refer to as Castiglion Aretino.

Not far from the Castle of Montecchio and close to Cortona a place where the perfect marriage of art and history takes place. Going in the opposite directon is the wonderful ride through the Chianti and Siena.
